Sample activity of integration onLSC S1:Oral literature: debate and persuasive speech


Imagine that there is a disagreement in your community about certain dogs that bark all night, every night. They keep everyone awake. Their owners say that they are good watchdogs and keep the community safe. They also keep way predators from the chickens.

  1. Write a short speech you would present to your community to explain why this is a problem and what you think can be done about it.
  2. Follow the format of a debate. Everyone should have a turn to speak. The class then votes for or against the motion.

I. Analyse and evaluate how speakers present points effectively by using language and gestures.
2.Sustain a conversation by giving reasons for your views or choices.
3.Take part in a debate and use the rules and language of debates.
4. Present spoken arguments, put points in a logical sequence, defend views with evidence and make use of persuasive language.
