How to Develop Talents
Talent is natural. Skill can be cultivated and honed. So. if you work on your skills, you will said to have developed Talent in those particular skills. It is never too late at getting good at some skill in life. You should aim to be the best. I would recommend you to contemplate / think on the following points:
- Introspect! : Ask yourself whether you really want to accomplish mastery over a particular skill, or you just want to know whether you can. If you just want to know, let me tell you that you can. Realize that just wanting to know and believe is self-amusement. Some people spend their entire life playing around with thoughts and wishes. So, the first thing you should consider doing: check whether your will is real. Or, are you complacent and okay if nothing in life actually works out ? Observe your thoughts, words and actions, and introspect whether they are aligned to each other. If not, forget developing the talent, and enjoy life the best way you can! You can lead a very happy and successful life even if you are not a very talented person. However, if your will / wish is real:
- Choose That One Thing!: One cannot become talented or skilled in each and every aspect of life. However, if you chose one thing that most resonates with you, and one thing that you can be passionately consistent (and, consistently passionate) about, you sure can accomplish mastery over that thing! It could be anything. In today’s world, information is value. It is not possible to be up to date with information about every thing. However, you sure can accomplish an expert level knowledge in a particular field of study. Figure out that one thing and work on it.
- When you chose that one thing that you want to excel at, and the one thing that you can dedicate yourself completely to, you should be willing to rule out all the other options you have been thinking about. You will have to deal with a lot of obstacles during the process. Now, there of course are different school of thoughts about it. You can lead a balanced life while working on honing your skill, and you should. However, if you want to be world class, (like you mentioned in the que: one of the most talented people in the world) you will have to hustle like anything. Do everything you can to reach that level of game. Experiment different ways of doing that thing. Follow Thought Leaders and Pioneers in your niche and work on developing your own way to serve the world. The more value you provide to the society, the more you will flourish, and also feel a sense of internal fulfillment.
- I would also suggest to focus your attention on the process, not the outcome. Becoming talented is the outcome or a result. The process is ‘karma’ or the duties that you would have to work on to get to that level. Also acknowledge the fact that people who the world knows as successful people were just curious to solve the questions in their mind. They just wanted to have solutions for their curiosity, answers to their questions. They were hungry for the knowledge, not for success, fame or popularity. When you find the thing that you are passionate about, be driven by the process and curiosity and really forget every other thing.
The Parable of the Talents
14 “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. 15 To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money.19 Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.’23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ 24 He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.’26 But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
