One of the most important dynamics at play within layperson debate is
Availability Bias, which is where people are prone to believe that something
is true because of the experiences they’ve had.
Example: Person A says smoking is dangerous, and Person B says it isn’t
because his grandfather smoked continuously for 95 years before dying in a
freak running accident.
In other words, to someone under the influence of this problem, reality as a
whole is shaped according to the data available to them as an
individual, which is necessarily and understandably limited.
