Activity 2.1 Studying the employment and career opportunities in the Performing Arts Industry

  1. Study the employment and career opportunities shown in the illustration below and explain what each person does in the Performing Arts Industry.
  1. Discuss the expected morals and ethical (expected standard ways of behaviour) conduct of a performer on and off stage.
  2. Brainstorm why effective teamwork and good leadership are important in Performing Arts.
  3. When you are organising a performance, you need to plan because there are some costs incurred. You should also bear in mind that your aim is to make profits, so, there is need to plan well in order to avoid losses. To achieve this, you need to:

(a) Present music, dance and drama as commodities for sale.

(b) Market these items to the audience who are the consumers.

5. What determines the choice of different practical aspects, such as materials and time for advertising, spaces to exhibit and marketing campaigns e.g., when should one use social media to advertise a music, dance and drama show?

  1. Discuss the things you are likely to spend on;

(a) During the preparation.

(b) During the performance.

(c) After the performance.

  1. Discuss the causes of losses in staging Performing Arts shows.
  2. Discuss what you would consider in selecting the most appropriate technologies (digital means of communication) for marketing in various situations.
