INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF EAST AFRICA
The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) issued a provisional license to the International University of East Africa (IUEA) on 17th of December 2010 to operate as a private university.
IUEA is located in Kansanga, Kampala, Uganda, and draws students from East Africa, and from the rest of the world. At present there are students from over 20 countries studying at IUEA, and there are faculty and staff from four continents. IUEA is indeed international as indicated by its name.
IUEA is a world-class institution that is modelled on the best universities in the world and dedicated to producing graduates who are masters of their chosen fields of study and simultaneously highly employable, and capable of creating new products and building new companies as entrepreneurs.
IUEA is a thriving community of scholars and students engaged in the pursuit of advanced knowledge, practical skills and humane values. Universities are centres of the highest forms of learning, teaching, research and service. The current global dominance of the knowledge economy has increased demand for university education.
It is the awareness of this increased demand for world-class university education that motivated the founders of IUEA in 2009 to constitute themselves into a board of trustees dedicated to founding IUEA in order to provide Uganda with a unique private university of the highest quality. The founders’ vision is to ensure that the acquisition of advanced knowledge includes also the attainment of practical skills that will enable IUEA students to be fully prepared for the worlds of entrepreneurship and employment. Therefore, there is an emphasis on hands-on learning experiences, experiments, and internships to complement theoretical knowledge.
The infrastructure for the provision of high quality teaching, learning, research and service include: the largest auditorium in Uganda; modern lecture rooms; wi-fi internet access throughout the campus; free laptop computers for all fulltime students on degrees programmes; an electronic library; a growing library of bound book volumes; excellent facilities for sports; growing international linkages; and highly qualified lecturers and professors.
The University Council, the Board of Trustees and Management of IUEA are all dedicated towards continuous improvement in infrastructure, teaching, learning and research.
LOCATION
IUEA has its main campus on a 15 acres (6.1 ha) piece of property at Kansanga, a southeastern suburb of Kampala, Uganda’s capital and largest city. Kansanga lies approximately 8 kilometres (5.0 mi), by road, south of the central business district of Kampala.
